On a Tuesday night, November 3, 2020, in Waldorf, Maryland, 17-year-old Daniel McClellan-Givens was fatally shot in a parking lot. The incident occurred around 11 p.m. in the 2000 block of Amber Leaf Place. After being shot, McClellan-Givens ran to a nearby apartment to seek help, from where he was transported to a hospital and subsequently pronounced deceased.
The Charles County Sheriff's Office launched an investigation into the homicide.
Detectives determined that McClellan-Givens had gone to the parking lot of Aldermans Place to meet with someone when an altercation occurred, and shots were fired. The suspect or suspects fled the scene immediately after the shooting.
Several months later, in March 2021, detectives identified two suspects in connection with the murder. Arrest warrants were issued for 21-year-old Anthony Edward Small of Capitol Heights and 19-year-old Tyliek Anthony Spence of Waldorf. Small was charged with first-degree murder, second-degree murder, and other related charges. At the time the warrant was served, he was already being held in another jurisdiction on an unrelated charge and was awaiting extradition to Charles County.
Tyliek Anthony Spence was located and arrested in Oklahoma on March 10, 2021. He was extradited back to Charles County on March 19 and charged with conspiracy to commit murder, conspiracy to commit first-degree assault, and conspiracy to commit robbery, among other related charges. On March 22, a judge released Spence on his own recognizance. The investigation into the death of Daniel McClellan-Givens was reported to be ongoing.
