Daniel Wayne Cogburn, a 29-year-old police officer from West Columbia, South Carolina, tragically lost his life on April 12, 1983. Officer Cogburn had been serving with the West Columbia Police Department for only four days when he was fatally shot while writing a traffic ticket. The incident occurred when a vehicle drove by and an individual inside fired a gun at Officer Cogburn, who had no prior connection to the shooter.
