Deputy Sheriff Donald Ray Hayes, aged 41, tragically lost his life on May 2, 1987, in Marion, South Carolina. He was serving an arrest warrant for simple assault when the incident occurred. Deputy Hayes, along with two other deputies, went to the suspect's home to execute the warrant.
