In the winter of 2015, a life was tragically cut short in Marion, South Carolina. John Floyd, a 36-year-old Black man, was fatally shot on January 6th while sitting in a car outside the Midway Minimart on Jones Avenue. The sudden violence of the act sent ripples of shock and grief through the community. Floyd was struck by multiple bullets and was rushed to the Carolinas Hospital System of Marion, but his injuries proved to be too severe.
