Javarious Marticus Scott, a 21-year-old Black male from Marion, South Carolina, was fatally shot on June 6, 2022, in Horry County. The shooting occurred at an apartment complex located off Bluff Road. The incident was immediately investigated by local law enforcement.
The investigation into the death of Javarious Scott led to the arrest of 22-year-old Derwin Dewayne Ellison Jr.
The Marion Police Department, with assistance from the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division took Ellison into custody. He faced multiple charges, including murder, pointing and presenting a firearm at a person, discharging a firearm within city limits, unlawful carrying of a firearm, and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime. Following his arrest, Ellison was denied bond on the murder charge, with the decision on a bond to be made by a Circuit Court Judge at a later date.
Tragically, the shooting incident also resulted in injury to a one-year-old child who was present at the scene. The child sustained significant injuries that affected her vision and required hospitalization. At the time of Ellison's arrest, no charges had been filed in connection with the injuries to the child, and that part of the investigation remained ongoing. The community of Marion was deeply saddened by the violent death of Javarious Scott. His family held a funeral service on June 14, 2022, at the CD Joyner Auditorium, where friends and family gathered to mourn their loss.
