Demetrik Tywan White, a 28-year-old Black male, tragically lost his life on the evening of November 12, 2020. The incident that led to his death unfolded on Wallace Circle in Marion, South Carolina. White was shot and subsequently transported to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. His death marked the second fatal shooting in the city of Marion that week, sending ripples of concern through the community.
For years, the investigation into Demetrik White's death continued, a
persistent effort by local law enforcement to piece together the events of that violent night. Investigators spent countless hours reviewing evidence, speaking with community members, and analyzing video footage in their search for answers. The case remained unsolved for over four and a half years, a period of uncertainty for his family and friends who mourned the loss of a man they remember as a loving father.
A significant breakthrough in the case finally came on June 17, 2025, when the Marion Police Department announced an arrest. Diamantae Karon Currie, 25 years old and also from Marion, was charged with the murder of Demetrik Tywan White. The charges against Currie were extensive, including Murder, Pointing and Presenting a Firearm at a Person, Unlawful Carrying of a Firearm, Discharging a Firearm in the City Limits, and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. At the time of his arrest for White's murder, Currie was already incarcerated at the Broad River Correctional Institution, serving sentences for Armed Robbery and Voluntary Manslaughter from unrelated cases in neighboring jurisdictions.
While the arrest of a suspect brought a measure of progress to the case, authorities have indicated that the investigation is not closed. Investigators are continuing to follow leads that suggest other individuals may have been involved in the incident that led to Demetrik White's death. The Marion Police Department has encouraged anyone with further information to come forward as they continue to seek full justice for White and his family.
