In the quiet town of Cottageville, South Carolina, a routine traffic stop on a late Saturday night in March of 1989 tragically escalated, leading to the death of the town's police chief, Jerry Wayne Shelton. At 28 years old, Chief Shelton had been leading the Cottageville Police Department for just over a year. Before his career in law enforcement, he had served his community as a paramedic.
