Death by Force

Eric Francis Nicholson, a 28-year-old Trooper First Class with the South Carolina Highway Patrol, tragically lost his life on December 6, 2000, in Greenville, South Carolina. Nicholson was on duty when he attempted to stop a suspect, John Richard Wood, who was riding a moped on Interstate 85. Wood did not comply and led Nicholson off the interstate. Nicholson used his patrol car to block Wood's path, at which point Wood drew a firearm and shot Nicholson five times, resulting in his death.
