Lora Kathryn Young, a 31-year-old woman, was tragically killed on July 5, 2015, in a violent sequence of events that claimed three other lives. The devastating incident was later determined by authorities to be a triple murder-suicide.
The perpetrator was 55-year-old Randy Moore.
On that fateful Sunday, at his home on Dunlap Roddey Road, Moore used his wife's own handgun to fatally shoot her, 50-year-old Anna Hubbard Moore, who was the Assistant York County Manager. After killing his wife inside their residence, Moore went outside and encountered his stepson, 31-year-old Jason Lockamy, and his girlfriend, Lora Kathryn Young. He shot and killed them both. Following the rampage, Randy Moore returned inside the house and took his own life.
The grim discovery was made later that day when a friend, who had been invited to the cookout, arrived at the home. Upon finding the bodies, the shaken friend went to a nearby establishment to get help, as he was unable to use his own phone. This led to two other individuals going to the residence to confirm the horrific situation before emergency services were called. When deputies from the York County Sheriff's Office arrived, they found two bodies inside the home and two outside.
Investigators worked to piece together the motive behind Randy Moore's actions, noting that while there were no prior reports of physical violence, there had been 'marital discord' between him and his wife. The weapon, a. 40-caliber handgun, had been purchased by Anna Moore years earlier. The investigation, which included ballistics and forensic tests, aimed to provide answers to the grieving families left behind by this sudden and tragic act of violence.
