A senseless argument at a house party on Howard Street in Spartanburg, South Carolina, tragically escalated in the early morning hours of July 25, 2015, leading to the death of Robert Lee Hull. The 37-year-old man, known to friends and family as 'Big Boy,' was shot and killed. Two other people were also injured in the gunfire that erupted following the initial altercation.
An investigation by law enforcement led them to identify Holmes Simpson-Davis as the individual responsible for the shooting.
The legal proceedings against Holmes Simpson-Davis culminated in a four-day jury trial where the prosecution presented a compelling case. Through the use of eyewitness accounts, along with testimony from law enforcement officials and medical experts, the jury was convinced of his guilt. On September 8, 2017, the jury found the 26-year-old Simpson-Davis guilty of the murder of Robert Lee Hull. He was also convicted on two counts of attempted murder for the injuries sustained by the other two victims, in addition to three counts of possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.
Following his conviction, Holmes Simpson-Davis was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the murder of Robert Lee Hull. The judge also imposed consecutive 30-year sentences for each of the attempted murder charges. It was noted that Simpson-Davis had a prior criminal record that included convictions for offenses related to drugs, property crimes, and weapons.
