In the autumn of 2015, a sense of unease settled over a Greenville, South Carolina community. Janet Denise Boyd, a 52-year-old woman, had not been seen or heard from for several days, sparking concern among those who knew her. The quiet fear crescendoed on a Friday when deputies from the Greenville County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to her home on Deerfield Road.
A tip about a possible deceased person inside led them to the residence around 11:30 a.m.
Upon entering the home, authorities made a grim discovery. Janet Boyd was found deceased, having suffered from multiple gunshot wounds. The Greenville County Deputy Coroner later confirmed that a gunshot wound to the head was the cause of her death. The investigation into her tragic end revealed that she had likely been killed three days prior to the discovery of her body, on Tuesday, November 3, 2015.
The investigation swiftly moved forward, and within a short time, two men were taken into custody in connection with the homicide. Erick Butler, 40, and Kentrell Lamar Gash, 28, were arrested and faced serious charges. Both men were charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime for their alleged roles in Janet Boyd's death.
