In the quiet city of Greenville, South Carolina, a tragic story unfolded in September of 2026, leaving a community in sorrow and two families grappling with an irreversible loss. The life of 23-year-old Kimyetta Aaliyah Melton was cut short on September 14th in a devastating act of violence that concluded a disturbing sequence of events. Concerns for Kimyetta's welfare arose among her family members when they were unable to establish contact with her. This led to a welfare check at her residence on Briargate Place, a place that would soon become the scene of a grim discovery.

Upon their arrival, law enforcement officers found the door to the townhome locked from the inside. Compelled to force their way in, they were met with a heartbreaking sight. Inside, both Kimyetta and her 26-year-old housemate, Angel Micquel Patterson, were found deceased, both having sustained gunshot wounds. The initial shock of the discovery gave way to a meticulous investigation by the Greenville County Coroner's Office to piece together the final moments of the two young women's lives. Neighbors would later report having heard the two women arguing prior to the tragic incident, a somber prelude to the violence that ensued. Investigators believe that the women were last seen alive sometime late Saturday night or in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The subsequent autopsies brought a harrowing clarity to the tragic event. The coroner determined that Kimyetta Aaliyah Melton died from multiple gunshot wounds, and her death was officially ruled a homicide. Angel Micquel Patterson's death, in contrast, was determined to be the result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. With these findings, the investigation concluded that the case was a murder-suicide, with Patterson being identified as the perpetrator responsible for Melton's death. As the investigation did not identify any other individuals involved, the case was closed without any arrests or further legal proceedings. The heartbreaking incident left the community to mourn the loss of two young lives, a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of domestic violence.
