In the spring of 2015, just days before she would have celebrated her 25th birthday, Keondra Monique Rosemond, a 24-year-old mother, was found dead in her car in Greenville, South Carolina. On the night of April 6th, deputies responded to a call about a suspicious vehicle at the Anderson Road Plaza parking lot. Inside, they discovered Ms. Rosemond in the driver's seat, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds to her head, neck, and chest.
She was pronounced dead at the scene, and her death was ruled a homicide.
The investigation into her death quickly focused on her boyfriend, Obed Jones. Investigators alleged that he was the man seen on surveillance video meeting with Rosemond in the parking lot on the night of her death. The video showed a heavyset Black male exit a white vehicle and get into Rosemond's car. Phone records also indicated that Rosemond and Jones had been in communication in the hours leading up to her murder.
Further investigation revealed that the white vehicle seen in the surveillance footage was a rental car registered in Rosemond's name, but GPS records placed it at Jones's home. The car was later found burned. During the investigation, it was mentioned that Rosemond had sent a text to her boyfriend asking for her keys back.
Obed Jones was arrested and charged with the murder of Keondra Rosemond. During his trial, the prosecution presented the surveillance video and phone records as key evidence. However, investigators did not find a weapon or Jones's fingerprints at the scene of the crime. The case was sent to the grand jury, but the final verdict and sentencing of Obed Jones's trial are not available in the public records searched.
