In the late summer of 2022, the life of a young mother was tragically cut short in Greenville, South Carolina. Ju-Keya Ju-Nae Babb, a 24-year-old female, was fatally shot on the evening of Tuesday, September 13, 2022. The incident occurred on Staunton Bridge Road, where an altercation escalated into deadly violence. Babb was rushed to Prisma Health Greenville Memorial Hospital, but succumbed to her injuries.
She left behind twin children, a son named Bryson and a daughter named Brooklyn.
The Greenville County Sheriff's Office investigated the homicide and quickly identified two suspects. Investigators determined that the shooting stemmed from an ongoing dispute between the victim and at least one of the individuals. Within days of the shooting, two people were in custody. Fifty-two-year-old Dione Griffith Dobbs was arrested at an apartment complex on Anderson Road. The second suspect, 26-year-old Jameric Chakkel Brannon, turned himself in to authorities at the Greenville County Law Enforcement Center.
Both Dobbs and Brannon were charged with Murder and Possession of a Weapon during a Violent Crime. According to investigators, both men fired shots during the altercation that resulted in Ju-Keya Babb being struck. Following their arrests, both suspects were booked into the Greenville County Detention Center to await bond hearings and further legal proceedings. The community was left to mourn the loss of a young woman and grapple with the consequences of a dispute that ended in tragedy.
