In the late afternoon of February 7, 2025, the life of 25-year-old Kylie Summer Rutledge, a white female, was tragically cut short in a shooting at the Howell Commons Apartments on Howell Circle in Greenville, South Carolina. Deputies from the Greenville County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to the scene around 4:15 p.m. following a 911 call about a gunshot victim. They discovered Kylie on the back patio of an apartment with at least one gunshot wound.
The coroner pronounced her dead at the scene.
Remembered for her infectious laughter and big heart, Kylie was a beloved mother to her daughter, Nyomi Grace. Her family and friends described her as a loving soul who gave love unconditionally. More than a month after the fatal shooting, on March 17, 2025, an arrest was made in connection with Kylie's death. Cheyenne Alesia Carmel Ramirez, 23 years old at the time, was taken into custody and charged with involuntary manslaughter. Investigators determined that Ramirez had shot Rutledge while they were both handling a firearm. At the time of the incident, both women were guests at the apartment where the shooting occurred.
Further investigation into the circumstances at the apartment revealed a connection to drug-related activities. The tenant of the apartment where the shooting took place was subsequently charged with distributing methamphetamine and the illegal possession of a firearm. Cheyenne Ramirez was booked into the Greenville County Detention Center with a bond set at $20,000. The investigation into the events that led to Kylie Summer Rutledge's untimely death continues as authorities work to bring a sense of justice to her grieving family and friends.
