In a tragic turn of events on a Saturday evening, Jennifer Claire Poore, a 38-year-old woman from Anderson, South Carolina, lost her life in a violent encounter. On July 30, 2016, deputies were called to a residence on Russell Drive around 8:40 p.m., where they discovered Poore lying in a pool of blood. She was immediately transported to AnMed Health Medical Center, but tragically, she was pronounced dead shortly after her arrival.
An autopsy later confirmed that she had died from a single gunshot wound, and her death was officially ruled a homicide.
The investigation into her death quickly led to the arrests of a young couple, 23-year-old Chevis Jake Morris and 21-year-old Jordan Michaela Hart, both from Anderson. Morris was identified as the primary suspect in Poore's death. According to arrest warrants, Morris confessed to striking Poore in the head with a. 40-caliber handgun. The impact of the blow caused the weapon to discharge, firing a bullet that penetrated her chest. The motive for this fatal act was believed to be robbery. In the hours leading up to the incident, a compassionate Poore had reportedly responded to a Facebook post from Hart, offering her help in any way she could.
Following the shooting, Morris and Hart fled the scene. Their escape led them to a nearby home on Hall Road, which they forcibly entered by kicking in the front door. Once inside, they stole electronics and a 2002 Lincoln Sable. This secondary crime spree resulted in additional charges for the couple. Morris was charged with murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime. Hart faced a charge of accessory after the fact to murder. Both were also charged with first-degree burglary and grand larceny for the offenses they committed while on the run. At a subsequent bond hearing, Hart claimed she was scared and did not know what was going to happen, expressing that Poore had been a very nice woman. The tragic and senseless death of Jennifer Poore left her family, including her two daughters, to grapple with the sudden and violent loss of their mother.
