On September 22, 2016, the body of Nicholas Marty Bruce, a 21-year-old White / Caucasian male, was discovered inside a vehicle at an intersection in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Local law enforcement and emergency responders were dispatched to the scene following reports of a motionless individual within a car. Upon arrival, officials secured the area to investigate the circumstances surrounding the young man's death, initially treating the scene with the protocols standard for an unattended
death investigation.
The Spartanburg County Coroner’s Office arrived to examine the decedent and determine the cause and manner of death. Following an assessment of the physical evidence found within the vehicle and the nature of the injuries sustained, the coroner released findings indicating that Bruce had died from self-inflicted injuries. Due to the determination that the death was a suicide, law enforcement concluded that there were no external suspects involved in the incident. Consequently, no arrests were made, and no criminal charges were filed in connection with his passing.
Nicholas Bruce was a native of Greenville County and a 2013 graduate of Blue Ridge High School. He was the son of Marty L. Bruce and the late Pamela Brown Bruce. Known to his friends and family as "Nick," he was a member of the Mount Lebanon Baptist Church. Following the conclusion of the investigation, his family held funeral services at his church in Greer, South Carolina, where he was laid to rest in the church cemetery.
