In the winter of 2016, a life was cut short in Columbia, South Carolina, when 23-year-old Bequan Antonio Recasner was killed. The fatal encounter unfolded on the afternoon of Friday, December 23, inside a home in the 100 block of Aster Circle.
An argument between several people escalated into a physical fight, and in the chaos, guns were drawn. Gunfire erupted, and when the violence subsided, Recasner lay unresponsive with multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body.
Two other individuals were also injured in the shootout.
Later that same night, the Richland County Sheriff's Department made an arrest in connection with the deadly shooting. Joseph L. Jones, 39 years old at the time, was taken into custody and subsequently charged with the murder of Bequan Recasner. Investigators believe that multiple firearms were involved in the incident.
Bequan, who was born on June 23, 1993, was remembered by his family as a hardworking young man who was always willing to lend a helping hand. He left behind a son and a fiancée.
