In the late summer of 2016, the quiet community of Northeast Richland County was shaken by a tragedy that claimed the lives of a beloved local businessman and his daughter. Dunber Dolo, a 55-year-old man who had built a life for his family in Columbia, South Carolina, after immigrating from Liberia, was known for his generosity and entrepreneurial spirit.
He was the owner of several businesses, including the popular nightclub Da Underground, and was a respected figure in his community.
On the morning of Saturday, August 27, 2016, a horrifying scene was discovered at his home on Brandon Hall Road. Dunber Dolo was found deceased on a neighbor's front lawn, while his 24-year-old daughter, Magaiteh Jacqueline Dolo, was found inside the home. Both had suffered fatal gunshot wounds to the upper body. The peaceful neighborhood was suddenly the center of a double homicide investigation.
The Richland County Sheriff's Department quickly identified a suspect: Willie Jermone Wilson, 25, the ex-boyfriend of Magaiteh Dolo. Investigators reported that the killings were the tragic culmination of an ongoing domestic dispute. According to authorities, Wilson had forced his way into the Dolo residence through a rear door before shooting Magaiteh and her father. After the shooting, he fled the scene, stealing his ex-girlfriend's car and cellphone.
The search for Wilson did not last long. The following day, on Sunday, August 28, he was apprehended without incident at an acquaintance's home on Screaming Eagle Road Extension, thanks to the combined efforts of the U.S. Marshals Service and the Richland County Sheriff's Department Task Force. Wilson was subsequently charged with two counts of murder, first-degree burglary, and armed robbery. During his initial court appearance, a judge denied him bond on the armed robbery charge, with the bond for the murder and burglary charges to be set in General Sessions court. The community was left to mourn the loss of a father and daughter, their lives cut short in a senseless act of violence.
