On May 9, 2018, Wiles was with her 24-year-old boyfriend, Tremaine Pierre Johnson, at Duncan Park. The couple was there to discuss the pregnancy, a topic that had become a point of contention.
Wiles wanted to keep her baby, a decision that Johnson did not support.
This disagreement culminated in an act of brutal violence. That evening, Johnson obtained a. 40 caliber handgun and shot Wiles in the head, her body later being discovered near Duncan Park Lake by two people out for a morning walk on May 11, two days after her family had last seen her leaving her aunt's home. Her family reported her missing on the same day her body was found. In her final communication with them, she had mentioned being at a park by the water with Johnson.
The investigation quickly led authorities to Tremaine Pierre Johnson. He was arrested on May 11, 2018, after a brief attempt to evade police. He was subsequently charged with murder. The investigation also uncovered the involvement of another man, Ricky Tyrell Gentry, who had provided Johnson with the murder weapon.
