In what was initially believed to be a tragic car accident, the death of 37-year-old Donald Antonio Young on December 29, 2018, in Columbia, South Carolina, was soon discovered to be a homicide. First responders found Young inside his crashed vehicle at the intersection of Meeting House and Clarkson roads. However, an autopsy later revealed the cause of death was not the collision, but a gunshot wound to the neck that had severed his spinal cord, leading to his immediate death and causing the
crash.
The subsequent investigation into the male victim's death led authorities to 43-year-old Correy Tremayne Brown. Investigators learned that Brown and Young had spent the evening together, first at Tony's Lounge and later at a witness's home. Surveillance footage and phone records, combined with an eyewitness account of the shooting, placed Brown with Young at the time of the incident. This evidence contradicted Brown's statements to law enforcement.
On December 31, 2018, just two days after Young's death, Correy Tremayne Brown was arrested by a fugitive task force without incident and charged with murder. His trial commenced on June 7, 2021, and concluded on June 11, 2021, with a Richland County jury finding him guilty of the murder of Donald Antonio Young. Following the conviction, Brown was sentenced to 42 years in prison.
