On a tragic Mother's Day morning, May 12, 2019, the life of 26-year-old Theron Rodrequis Woodard of Winnsboro, South Carolina, was cut short by gun violence in Columbia. Woodard, a Black / African American male, was a passenger in a car on Columbia Mall Boulevard when shots were fired into the vehicle. He was struck in the upper torso and rushed to Prisma Richland Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries at 5:12 a.m.
Another passenger in the vehicle was also wounded in the attack.
The Richland County Sheriff's Department began an investigation into the shooting, which occurred around 4:30 a.m. near the intersection of Parklane Road and O'Neil Court. Their efforts led to the arrest of 29-year-old Kendall Jamil Brice, who was charged with murder and attempted murder in connection with the incident. The arrest, however, did not bring lasting closure to Woodard's grieving family.
In a surprising turn of events, the charges against Kendall Jamil Brice were later dropped. This development left the family of Theron Woodard, who was affectionately known as 'Boukie,' back at the beginning of their quest for justice. His mother and sister have expressed their profound sense of loss and their bewilderment surrounding the circumstances of his death, stating that the official story does not add up. They continue to plead with the community for any information that might lead to the person or persons responsible for Theron's death. As of the latest reports, the Richland County Sheriff's Department's investigation remains ongoing, and they have not publicly identified any new suspects.
