In the late summer of 2019, the life of 18-year-old Carlos LaMarcus Bethel, a male from Irmo, South Carolina, was tragically cut short. On the evening of August 8th, a violent encounter unfolded on Forestview Circle, near Broad River Road, that would leave two teenagers dead and another individual wounded. Gunshots shattered the night, and when the chaos subsided, Bethel had sustained severe gunshot wounds to his upper body.
Another young man, 19-year-old Tyson Angelo Anderson, also from Irmo, was pronounced dead at the scene from a gunshot wound to the torso.
For six days, Carlos Bethel fought for his life at Prisma Health Richland Memorial Hospital. Despite the efforts of medical staff, his injuries proved to be too severe. On August 14, 2019, he succumbed to the complications from his wounds, becoming the second fatality of the triple shooting. The incident was a stark reminder of the devastating impact of gun violence on the community.
In the wake of the deadly shooting, the Richland County Sheriff's Department launched an investigation that quickly pointed to a suspect. The violence was reportedly connected to a dispute over marijuana. The investigation led law enforcement to 19-year-old Kevin Green III. He was apprehended in Atlanta, Georgia, and taken into custody.
Following his arrest, Kevin Green III was charged with two counts of murder for the deaths of Carlos LaMarcus Bethel and Tyson Angelo Anderson. He also faced a charge of attempted murder for the injuries sustained by the third individual who was shot and survived. The Richland County Sheriff emphasized the destructive combination of guns, drugs, and gangs, which too often leads young people down a path toward tragedy.
