Do you know who murdered Marcellus Hinton? In the early morning hours of a Saturday in Louisville, Kentucky, the life of Marcellus St. Claire Hinton, a 29-year-old Black male, was tragically cut short. On November 3, 2018, police responded to a call of a person down shortly before 9 a.m. in the 400 block of South 27th Street, near Muhammad Ali Boulevard. Upon arrival, they discovered Hinton inside a vehicle, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators at the time believed the shooting may have occurred during the overnight hours. The Jefferson County Coroner's Office officially identified Hinton, and a WDRB photographer noted that the vehicle was towed from the scene with his body still inside. In the years that have followed, the investigation into Hinton's death has grown cold. Despite the efforts of the Louisville Metro Police Department, no suspects have been publicly identified, and no arrests have been made in connection with the homicide.
The lack of resolution has left a void for Hinton's friends and family, who continue to seek answers and justice. His case remains an open and unsolved murder. Marcellus, who was named after the boxing legend Cassius Marcellus Clay was himself a gifted boxer in his youth, achieving success as a Silver Gloves and Junior Olympics champion. He was a father to an eight-year-old daughter and had recently started his own construction company. His family remembers him as a man full of life who enjoyed traveling, fast cars, and motorcycles. His death was the second tragedy to strike the family in a short period, as his older brother had passed away just ten months prior.
