In the Park Hills neighborhood of Spartanburg, South Carolina, a disagreement on November 1, 2019, tragically escalated, ending the life of 38-year-old Jason Rashaun Eison. On that Friday evening, around 5:30 p.m. on Amherst Drive, an argument led to a fatal encounter. Following the dispute, Rishard Lewis Geter emerged from a vehicle armed with a pistol and fired approximately ten shots at Eison.
Emergency services transported Eison to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center, where he
succumbed to his injuries, having sustained seven gunshot wounds. The investigation into the shooting led to the identification and arrest of Rishard Lewis Geter. At the time of the incident, Geter was on probation and had a significant prior criminal record. His history included convictions for Unlawful Carrying of a Handgun, Possession of a Stolen Pistol, Pointing and Presenting a Firearm, Breach of Peace of a High and Aggravated Nature, Assault with Intent to Kill, and Domestic Violence in the Second Degree.
In February 2023, a jury found the 37-year-old Geter guilty of Murder, Breach of Peace of a High and Aggravated Nature, and Possession of a Weapon During the Commission of a Violent Crime. For the murder of Jason Eison, he was sentenced to forty years in prison. The sentences for the other charges were set to run concurrently with his murder sentence.
