In the early morning hours of a Sunday in January 2020, a birthday celebration at a Jasper County motorcycle club took a tragic turn, ending the life of 23-year-old Kevon Williams Jr. of Ridgeland, South Carolina. The event, attended by over 100 people, was held at the Black Presidents Motorcycle Club, located just outside the town limits of Yemassee.
The festive atmosphere was shattered at approximately 1:30 a.m. on January 12th, when gunfire erupted inside the club.
Amid the chaos, Williams was fatally wounded. Two off-duty Sheriff's Office deputies were working at the event. One deputy, who had been assisting with a nearby car accident, rushed back to the club as the first shots were fired. Upon entering, the other deputy was already administering CPR to Williams.
The violence escalated as a second round of shots was fired from outside the building, with bullets piercing the club's walls. The deputies inside attempted to provide cover for the panicked attendees. The shooting ceased as more law enforcement, including the Yemassee Police Department, arrived at the scene. In addition to the fatal shooting of Kevon Williams Jr., a man and a woman were also wounded by the gunfire but were expected to recover after receiving treatment at local hospitals. Williams was transported to Beaufort Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
In the immediate aftermath, the Jasper County Sheriff's Office launched an active investigation into the homicide. Authorities appealed to the public for any information or video footage that could lead to the identification of those responsible for the violence. Despite the numerous witnesses present at the crowded party, no arrests were immediately announced.
