In the quiet early morning hours of June 8, 2020, the life of 28-year-old Marquis Antwan Richey was tragically cut short in his Greer, South Carolina, home. A knock at his door around 12:45 a.m. led to an argument with at least one other person, culminating in a fatal gunshot wound. Richey, a male, had recently moved into the residence on Will Street with his girlfriend and her young children.
Rushed to Spartanburg Regional Hospital, Richey underwent surgery but ultimately succumbed to
his injuries. The incident has been classified as a homicide, leaving his family devastated and searching for answers. His parents, Joy and Elijah Richey, have spoken of the enduring nightmare their family has lived with since his death, describing it as a sentence they began serving the day he was killed. They remember their son as someone who dreamed of marriage and having children of his own, a future that was stolen from him.
Despite the passage of time, the case remains an unsolved cold case. No arrests have been made, and no suspects have been publicly identified. The Greer Police Department continues to investigate the homicide and has actively sought information from the public. In an effort to generate new leads, a significant reward has been offered for information that leads to an arrest. The initial reward offered by Greenville Crime Stoppers was later supplemented by a larger sum from the Greer Police Department, bringing the total to $12,000.
