Do you know who murdered Decorian Curry? In the warm late spring air of a May night in Louisville, Kentucky, 17-year-old Decorian Curry was enjoying time with friends. The male teenager, known affectionately as 'Yuddy' to his loved ones, was at a gathering in the Shawnee neighborhood. In the early morning hours of May 25, 2019, the cheerful atmosphere was shattered by gunfire. A white vehicle, reportedly carrying at least two people, drove past the home on South 42nd Street and Larkwood Avenue and unleashed a spray of bullets into the
crowd of people on the porch.
The sudden violence of the drive-by shooting left Decorian fatally wounded. He was rushed to the University of Louisville Hospital, but tragically succumbed to his injuries shortly after 2 a.m. His family and friends were plunged into a state of shock and grief, remembering him as a goofy, loving 'mama's boy' who could make anyone laugh. A student at Western High School, he had been looking forward to his graduation in 2020. Another young man was also struck by a bullet but survived. Friends and community members believe Decorian was not the intended target, but rather an innocent victim of senseless gun violence.
The tragedy was compounded by the fact that this was not the first time gun violence had touched Decorian's family. His mother, Laurice Henry, had previously endured the pain of having two of her older sons shot in separate incidents. Thankfully, they had survived. This time, however, she lost her youngest son. In the months that followed, she and other family members pleaded for answers and for justice for Decorian. Despite their hopes, and descriptions of the white vehicle involved, no arrests have been made in connection with the murder, and no suspects have been publicly identified. The case remains a painful, unsolved chapter for a grieving family and community.
