In the early morning hours of May 27, 2023, the Chickasaw neighborhood of Louisville, Kentucky, was shattered by an act of violence that claimed the life of Deante Alexander, a 30-year-old Black man. Just before 1:30 a.m., in the 3500 block of Grand Avenue near South 36th Street, shots rang out, leaving Alexander with multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene, his life tragically cut short.
