In the early evening of March 19, 2016, in south Louisville, Kentucky, a report of a shooting brought police to the 2400 block of Nichols View Court. Upon arrival just after 5:30 p.m., officers discovered 22-year-old Demarco Durham, a Black male, inside a vehicle. He had sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the head and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Demarco, known to friends and family as Marco, was born in Louisville on March 5, 1994.
He was a father to a daughter, DeMaya, and a son, Marco Jr. He had a passion for playing football and video games and enjoyed spending time with his children. His life was cut short in an act of gun violence that left his family and friends mourning his sudden loss.
The investigation into the shooting continued for nearly a month. Initially, police had no suspects. However, on April 14, 2016, Louisville Metro Police announced an arrest in the case. They charged 21-year-old Jaaron Wilson with the murder of Demarco Durham. The arrest brought a measure of progress to an investigation that had started with a grim discovery on a quiet residential court.
