In the fall of 2020, a dispute between two acquaintances in Columbia, South Carolina, escalated to a fatal conclusion, leaving one man dead and another facing a murder charge. The deceased was identified as Justin Isaiah Chandler, a 30-year-old male. The incident unfolded inside a vehicle at Sandalewood Court, where an argument broke out between Chandler and 22-year-old Darius D.
Jackson, Junior.
The verbal altercation turned violent, and investigators believe that during the course of the argument, Chandler shot Jackson multiple times. Despite being wounded, Jackson is accused of then fatally shooting Chandler. An autopsy later confirmed that Justin Isaiah Chandler died from a gunshot wound to the upper body.
Following the shooting, Columbia Police Department officers were initially called to the intersection of Timberlake Drive and Lost Creek Drive, where they found Chandler, who was pronounced deceased at the scene by EMS personnel. Evidence connected to the investigation was collected from both Sandalewood Court and Timberlake Drive.
Law enforcement located the injured suspect, Darius D. Jackson, Junior, at a nearby home. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries. Upon his medical release, Jackson was taken into custody, questioned by investigators, and subsequently booked at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center. He has been charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. The Fifth Circuit Solicitor's Office was consulted regarding the investigation.
