In the early morning hours of April 3, 2021, the life of 27-year-old Charles Richard 'Charlie' Fulk was tragically cut short in Columbia, South Carolina. A native of Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, the young man was discovered deceased at the Shandon Crossing Apartments located on South Beltline Boulevard. The cause of his untimely death was determined to be a gunshot wound to the upper body.
At the time of his passing, Fulk was a student at Naropa University in Boulder, Colorado, and was a member of the Mt. Hermon United Methodist Church in his hometown of Graham, North Carolina.
The Richland County Sheriff's Department immediately launched an investigation into the shooting. Their efforts led them to identify a suspect in the case. Less than a week after Fulk's body was found, authorities arrested 22-year-old Ahmad Cook II in connection with the fatal shooting. The arrest was made without incident during a traffic stop on Interstate 20.
Following his arrest, Ahmad Cook II was charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. He was subsequently booked into the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center. The investigation continued as authorities worked to piece together the events that led to the deadly encounter at the apartment complex. The motive for the shooting was not immediately released to the public. The Richland County Sheriff's Department and the Richland County Coroner's Office collaborated on the ongoing investigation into the homicide.
