In the quiet town of Winnsboro, South Carolina, the life of 22-year-old Gabriel Deshawn Brisbon, a male resident of Fairfield County, was tragically cut short in early 2021. The young man was last seen by his loved ones on January 31, 2021, at the Winnfield West Apartments. Concern mounted as days passed without a word, prompting his family to report him missing on February 2nd.
Their worst fears were realized three days later, on February 5th, when they discovered his body in an abandoned mobile home lot off U.S. 321. The scene told a grim story; Brisbon had been shot multiple times. His vehicle was later found abandoned in Columbia, adding another layer of mystery to the heartbreaking discovery.
The investigation into Gabriel Brisbon's death swiftly led law enforcement to identify two individuals of interest, Osman Shabazz Jr. and Sylvia Bacon-Scott. The Fairfield County Sheriff's Office launched a search for the pair, cautioning the public that they were considered armed and dangerous. Adding to the urgency of the manhunt was the revelation that Shabazz and Bacon-Scott were accompanied by a 5-month-old infant. The search for the suspects concluded on February 11, 2021, when they were located and arrested in Columbia.
Following the arrests, the wheels of justice began to turn. Osman Shareef Shabazz Jr., 24 at the time of his conviction, faced charges of murder, possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, and grand larceny. On September 29, 2022, a jury found Shabazz guilty of the murder of Gabriel Brisbon, and he was subsequently sentenced to life in prison. He also received five-year sentences for the two related charges. Sylvia Bacon-Scott, along with a minor, were also charged in connection with Brisbon's murder.
