The evening of Saturday, December 13, 2025, ended in tragedy at the Winnfield West Apartment Complex in Winnsboro, South Carolina. Fairfield County deputies were dispatched to the scene on the U.S. 321 Bypass around 11 p.m. following reports of gunfire. Upon entering one of the apartments, law enforcement officers discovered 17-year-old Marvin Donnell Jones Jr., a male resident of Winnsboro, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Emergency medical services arrived shortly thereafter but were unable to save him, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
An investigation was immediately launched involving the Fairfield County Sheriff’s Office, the Fairfield County Coroner’s Office, and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division. As investigators worked to piece together the events leading to the shooting, they identified another 17-year-old male as the primary suspect. A short time after the investigation began, this suspect voluntarily surrendered himself at the sheriff's office. Due to his age, his identity was not released to the public, but he was subsequently taken to the Fairfield County Detention Center.
The teenage suspect faces serious charges in connection with the death, including murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime. While the motive for the shooting was not immediately disclosed, authorities confirmed that the two teenagers were the only individuals directly involved in the fatal altercation. Funeral services for Marvin Donnell Jones Jr. were held the following week on Monday, December 22, 2025, at Nelson's Funeral Home in Ridgeway, followed by interment at Fairfield Memorial Cemetery.
