In the early evening of July 12, 2021, a dispute at the Village St. Claire Apartments in Manning, South Carolina, escalated into a fatal encounter. The altercation resulted in the shooting death of 21-year-old Jonathan Derrick Johnson, a Black male from Sumter. He was privately transported to McLeod Health Clarendon, where he was pronounced dead by the emergency room staff.
