In the summer of 2024, a domestic dispute at a motel in Manning, South Carolina, ended in the tragic death of 28-year-old Abram Bernardo Walker Jr. The Black male was found with a gunshot wound on the second-floor stairwell of the Quality Inn on Paxville Highway, just off Interstate 95. First responders were called to the scene on the night of July 2nd, where the Clarendon County Coroner's Office ultimately pronounced Walker deceased.

Sheriff's Office detained a 27-year-old woman, Carrie Anastasia Woodberry, who was found in possession of a handgun. Investigators have characterized the shooting as a domestic violence-related incident that stemmed from a confrontation between Woodberry and Walker. Both Walker and Woodberry were residents of Sumter, South Carolina.
Following the incident, Woodberry was taken into custody at the Clarendon County Detention Center. She was subsequently charged with voluntary manslaughter in connection with Walker's death. The investigation into the shooting remains ongoing. Abram Bernardo Walker Jr. was born on April 27, 1996, and a celebration of his life was held on July 11, 2024.
