In the summer of 2020, a life full of promise was tragically cut short in Manning, South Carolina. Travon Stinney Stukes, a 19-year-old male, known affectionately as 'Tray Gemini,' was a vibrant and talented young man with a passion for music and art. A 2019 graduate of Manning High School, he was known for his positive outlook, charming smile, and his willingness to help others, often being the go-to person for fixing electronics.
He was a hard worker, holding positions at several local businesses and most recently at Amazon in Columbia.
On the afternoon of August 26, 2020, an altercation on Dickson Street in Manning ended in gunfire. Travon was shot and rushed to McLeod Health Clarendon, but tragically, he was pronounced deceased. His death sent ripples of grief through the community that knew him for his artistic talents and kind heart.
The Manning Police Department swiftly launched an investigation into the homicide, which they described as an isolated incident. Their efforts quickly led to the identification of several individuals believed to be involved. Three men, Markel Antonio Dennis, 23, Tyler S. McBride, 20, and Demadrae Isaiah Dennis, 19, were taken into custody and charged with accessory after the fact of murder. The alleged shooter, however, remained at large.
Authorities identified Latique L. Rittenhour, 21, as the primary suspect and issued warrants for his arrest on charges of murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. For several months, Rittenhour evaded capture. Finally, in February 2021, the Manning Police Department announced that Latique L. Rittenhour had been apprehended, bringing a sense of relief to a community still mourning the loss of a young life taken too soon.
