In the autumn of 2021, the life of 31-year-old Jacob Briar Black, a resident of Williamston, South Carolina, was tragically cut short. On the afternoon of Monday, October 4th, events unfolded on Griffin Road in Belton that would end in his untimely death. Reports of gunfire in the area prompted a response from the Anderson County Sheriff's Office. Upon their arrival, deputies discovered Mr. Black lying near the roadway, having sustained apparent gunshot wounds.
Despite any efforts to render aid, he was pronounced deceased at the scene. The Anderson County Deputy Coroner later confirmed that he was found in a ditch.
The investigation into the shooting moved swiftly, and within a day, authorities had identified and apprehended two suspects. Glenn Theadore Curry, Jr., 36, and Brandie Shae Curry, 32, were taken into custody in connection with the fatal shooting. The Anderson County Sheriff's Detectives charged both individuals with Murder and Possession of a Weapon During a Violent Crime. Following their arrest, Glenn and Brandie Curry were booked into the Anderson County Detention Center. A judge subsequently denied bond for both suspects, ensuring they would remain in custody as the legal process moved forward. The motive for the shooting was not immediately released to the public.
Jacob Briar Black was born in Greenville and was formerly employed with Bigham Construction. He was the fiancé of Georgia Nicole Cape and a father to two sons, Jacob Briar Black, II and Cohen Black. His passing left a void in the lives of his family, including his parents, John Black, II and Karen Edens Black, a brother, and a sister. His family and friends gathered to remember him at a funeral service held in the chapel of Gray Mortuary, followed by his burial at Flat Rock Baptist Church Cemetery. The investigation into his death continues as the case against the accused proceeds through the justice system.
