In the early morning hours of New Year's Eve, a dispute inside a Spartanburg County bar turned deadly, leaving one man shot to death. Jose Luis Perez, a 32-year-old man from Boiling Springs, was inside the El Gordo Bar on Asheville Highway when an argument with another man escalated. The altercation ended with Perez suffering a fatal gunshot wound. Deputies were called to the scene at approximately 2 a.m.
and found Perez already deceased.
Witnesses at the bar told investigators that an argument preceded the shooting. The investigation quickly led to the identification of two suspects. Later that same day, the Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office announced the arrests of Elder Ramirez Escobar, 26, and Tiffany Dawn McAbee, 37. Escobar was located and apprehended in a hotel room in North Carolina.
Authorities charged Elder Ramirez Escobar with murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime. Tiffany Dawn McAbee, of Spartanburg, was charged with accessory after the fact of murder for her alleged role in assisting Escobar after the shooting. The swift arrests brought a quick turn to the investigation of the violent end to the year at the local bar.
