In the spring of 2020, a tragedy struck Spartanburg, South Carolina, with the death of 13-year-old Travis Cortez 'Coco' Steadman, Jr. The young male, born on October 24, 2006, was a student at Carver Middle School where he was known for his charming smile and friendly nature, never having met a stranger.
On the afternoon of April 10, 2020, the promising life of Travis was cut short. He was discovered on Gowan Street with a gunshot wound to his midsection.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene around 4 p.m. and administered immediate medical aid before he was rushed to Spartanburg Medical Center. Despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead at 4:30 p.m. from the fatal gunshot wound.
