Carole Schaefer, an 83-year-old resident of James Island, Charleston, SC, was found dead on January 3, 2022, from an apparent gunshot wound to the head. Initially, emergency responders were called to the scene for what was believed to be a medical emergency, but upon arrival, they discovered the tragic circumstances of her death.
