In a tragic turn of events that began on a winter evening, Bilal Shaheed Harris, a 32-year-old Black or African American man, was shot multiple times near the intersection of Grey Street and Mr. Joe White Avenue in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, on January 5, 2022. He was rushed to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center, where he fought for his life for three days before succumbing to his injuries on January 8, 2022. Born in Myrtle Beach on November 1, 1989, Harris was known for his passions for rapping, drawing, and, most of all, spending time with his children.

The investigation into the shooting led to the identification and arrest of multiple suspects. According to police reports, the incident began when Patrick Anthony Brave, 28, allegedly entered Harris's home without permission to steal a firearm. A physical altercation ensued between the two men, which culminated in Brave allegedly shooting Harris multiple times outside the residence. Brave was apprehended shortly after the incident and has been charged with murder and first-degree burglary.

Further investigation led to the arrest of 23-year-old Jacory Rashawn Hytower in Bibb County, Georgia. He was extradited back to Myrtle Beach to face charges of murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. A third suspect, Ryan Jobe Harrell, was also implicated in connection with the case. Harrell attempted to evade capture by driving away from law enforcement, striking a police SUV and another vehicle before fleeing on foot. The community continues to mourn the loss of Harris, remembering the joy he brought to those who knew him as the legal process for the accused moves forward.
