In the quiet community of Summerville, South Carolina, a burst of violence on March 2, 2022, cut short the life of 15-year-old Malaki Trayvion Mazyck. The young man was one of two victims in a fatal shooting that transpired in the parking lot of the Sangaree branch of the Berkeley County Library. Emergency services rushed to the scene, and Mazyck was transported to the Brighton Park Emergency Room, but he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
The second victim, 18-year-old Kenyon Johnson, succumbed to his injuries the following morning.
The investigation into the double homicide led authorities on a multi-state search for the person responsible for the senseless act. The pursuit of justice culminated in the apprehension of a 17-year-old suspect at a resort in Orlando, Florida. The U.S. Marshals Service's Florida Caribbean Regional Fugitive Task Force located and arrested the teenager.
