In the early hours of a Tuesday morning in Anderson, South Carolina, the life of 20-year-old Cormyus Kyree Dennis was tragically cut short. On May 31, 2022, police responded to a call from an apartment complex on Double Oak Court around 12:30 a.m., where they discovered Dennis suffering from gunshot wounds to his abdomen. He was immediately transported to AnMed Health Medical Center for treatment.
Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Cormyus Kyree Dennis, a male, succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at 1:31 a.m. The Anderson County Coroner's Office later ruled his death a homicide, stating that the shooting occurred during an altercation.
The investigation into the death of Dennis, a 2020 graduate of Westside High School, quickly moved forward. Within days, authorities from the Anderson Police Department and the Anderson County Sheriff's Office identified two suspects in connection with the fatal shooting. The first suspect, Xavier Gentry-Butler, was located and taken into custody. Investigators then sought the public's assistance in locating a second individual, Jaimon Amunyis-Lee Rucker.
Following a search that extended to social media pleas for information, Jaimon Amunyis-Lee Rucker was also apprehended. Both Gentry-Butler and Rucker were subsequently charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. The arrests brought a measure of progress in a case that had suddenly and violently ended a young man's life. Information regarding the trials and potential convictions of the two suspects has not been made publicly available.
