James Dewitt II, a 52-year-old Black man from Columbia, South Carolina, was a respected businessman and a newly elected Atlantic Beach councilman. He and his wife of many years, Gloria, also 52, were known in their community as a hardworking and kind couple. James was the proud owner of Legends Security & Sound, a local security systems company.
