In a tragic turn of events on a Tuesday morning in North Charleston, South Carolina, a 35-year-old man, Ahmad Rashad Gardner, lost his life in a fatal vehicle incident with an unexpected cause. Gardner was driving eastward on Rivers Avenue when he attempted to make a U-turn near Mall Drive. According to an eyewitness account given to the police, he did not complete the maneuver.
His vehicle then went through a parking lot at the intersection of Rivers Avenue and Dalton Street, ultimately colliding with an unoccupied car.
North Charleston Police were dispatched to the scene at approximately 6:20 a.m. Upon their arrival, they discovered Gardner with a wound in his groin area that was consistent with a gunshot injury. Despite any potential life-saving efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene. The Charleston County Coroner's Office later publicly identified Gardner.
Following a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident, the North Charleston Police Department concluded that Gardner's death was the result of a tragic accident. A spokesperson for the department stated that after a review of all the facts and evidence, it was determined that Gardner had accidentally discharged a firearm while he was driving.
