On an autumn day in 2001, the body of 22-year-old Melvin Childress, an African-American male, was discovered in a field near 69th Street North and Woodlawn in Sedgwick County, Kansas. The grim finding on October 18th marked the beginning of a homicide investigation that would span years without resolution. To this day, the case remains an open and unsolved cold case, leaving a family without answers and a community with the lingering question of who was responsible for the young man's death.
