Do you know who murdered Jerry? On May 2, 1979, the body of 22-year-old Jerry Hunter, a male forklift operator, was discovered in a ditch in Sedgwick County, Kansas. His pickup truck had been found separately in the parking lot of a convenience store located at 85th North and Meridian in Valley Center. A mile away, at 85th North and Seneca, authorities located Hunter's body.
An investigation revealed that Hunter had died from a single gunshot wound to the back of his head.
The nature of the wound led authorities to describe the killing as "execution style." Found with his body were his money and personal identification, which seemed to indicate that robbery was not the motive for his murder. This detail added a layer of complexity to the investigation, leaving detectives to explore other possible reasons for his death.
Despite the efforts of the Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office, the case grew cold over the years. No suspects have ever been publicly identified, and no arrests have been made in connection with the homicide.
