He was not the only individual targeted in the attack; another man, Tony West, was also struck by gunfire but ultimately survived his wounds.

Law enforcement officers from the Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis and the Northwoods Police Department launched an investigation into the homicide. Authorities focused their attention on a specific suspect identified as John Trevillion, also known by the nickname 'Birdie,' who was 31 years old at the time.
