In a south St. Louis home, a confrontation turned deadly, claiming the life of 50-year-old Daryne Anthony Hall. On the evening of January 24, 2023, in the Gravois Park neighborhood, a man allegedly arrived at a residence on Minnesota Avenue with violent intentions.
The man, later identified as 43-year-old Chavis Q. Roberts, reportedly told an occupant of the house that he was 'sent to kill' them.
It was at this moment that Daryne Hall intervened, attempting to de-escalate the volatile situation. A physical altercation ensued between Hall and Roberts, tragically culminating in Hall being shot in the chest. After being shot, Hall stumbled to the back of the house where he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Following the incident, Roberts sought medical treatment at a local hospital for a gunshot wound to his hand. His presence at the hospital, coupled with an identification from a witness in a photo lineup, led to his arrest. Prosecutors subsequently charged Chavis Q. Roberts with first-degree murder and armed criminal action in connection with the death of Daryne Anthony Hall. He was ordered to be held without bond.
